Laura slid her backpack off the desk and pulled out her book and binder.

A sigh, because discussion was really getting interesting, and a note on the staff paper starts getting made.

Astrids eyes seemed to light up a little at that.

"She's a scientist? What field? My father is a polar researcher, he works a lot with American researchers."

She slid her chair closer, looking at the machine.

"We have time now yes?"

Simon withdrew a bit defensively. His mother was always secretive about her work. "She doesn't really go into much detail. A lot of boring number crunching that would be a lot more boring without computers is what she usually says." He pauses a moment when Mr. Fisher comes in, then starts back after hearing his announcement.

"Well I guess we do have a little extra time." He turns the laptop so Astrid can see. "I've got the basics covered with AppleWorks. WordPerfect if I'm typing up an essay, it has better formatting options. PageMaker for projects needing even more formatting, but I haven't had much need for it yet. Then I have Programmer's Workshop for... well, programming. And I just picked up World Builder. It's a program that lets you make games."

There was a small look of disappointment as the dismissive reply on the work, but she nodded.

"Parents think their work is always super secret and important. It makes it more interesting yes?"

She did lean in to look at the machine, focusing on that before worrying about the teacher.

"So you are...designing so many things on your machine? I would just do this all on paper. World builder though...this sounds fun. But not something for class though sadly."

She sat back, now looking at the teacher.

"I suppose I need to go get the teachers attention now, be back in a moment" she gave the boy a smile then stood up and walked over to the teacher.

Mr.Lester Fisher made his way into the classroom rather late. "Sorry class... I was working something with the Sinew institute and it took longer than I thought. I have to prepare so you can keep on conversing.I will let you know when I am ready."

She moved to stand by the teachers desk, looking at the man silently waiting for him to finish what he was doing.

He was finishing organizing papers to give out for the lesson of the day. The teacher looked at the shadow looming over the desk and turned to the girl. "You must be Astrid, the new kid. What do you procure?"

There was a look of confusion.

"Oh... what do you need? like notes from previous classes or the period we are studying?" Mr. Fisher started to look for his notes.

Astrid tilted her head.

"All of that would be useful for someone who was at a school in a different continent previously would it not?"

"Here..." He handed some of the notes. "Do you know anyone here that you could ask for notes besides mine... theirs might be less convoluted. " He chuckled.

There was a shrug.

"I'd have thought the teachers notes would be best but I'll ask a student as well then. Thank you."

With that she took the notes given, giving the man a small smile before returning to sit next to Simon. Putting the notes down on the table to read with a frown on her face.

Astrid would note that the notes were not in order and started with one thing and trailed of to another thing that maybe unrelated, maybe it was related. Who knows?

He cleared his throat and started passing papers. "Today we are talking about the history of the Silver rush. Many give more importance to the gold rush but our city was founded during that time."

"What a weird history your country has. Do you not learn about the history of the world, only history of the United States?"

He shrugged "American History is taught a lot, we learn some broader history like the world wars and stuff that lead to it. I think there might be a unit or two on some european history at some point."

He nodded "They're spotty, not the best student remember? But whats there is probably better than that." He said nodding to the convoluted pile of notes.

He pulled some pages from his folder and handed them over. The notes made sense and were organized but there were gaps in the information.
