"Good morning, Mr. McDowell." Unlike other classes, Jono did not sit by the window.

Sybil arrived and sat down, not sure why they had to take English class when they already knew how to speak English real good.

Coop sighs as he finds his seat.

He takes out his staff paper again, ready for note-making.

Mariana, unlike in other classes, she this time sat on front.

Simon took his place in the back and set up his laptop to take notes. English wasn't his favorite subject, but like his mother always said, 'Even a scientist needs to be able to convey their findings clearly and concisely.'

Astrid made her way to the classroom. Her eyes were now red, and her hair was styled slightly differently today it seemed.

She paused much like previous days, looking at the desk situation to see where people were sitting before she sat down. Not confident this class would be very good going by how English seemed to be in America in her experiences.

Laura entered just behind Astrid. "It's all open seating so you can sit wherever you want." She said before headed to a seat at the back of the class.

There was a nod at that, before she decided to sit near the back, close to where Laura was.

Cam made it to class just before the bell and moved to the back near Laura and Astrid. Unsurprisingly he was listening to music as he was most mornings though this time he pulled the headphones down as he sat near them.

"Hey, how's it hangin?" He said in greeting to them.

Snip
"Hi Cameron, pretty good I guess." She leaned over close to him and whispered in his ear. "Astrid is one of us."

Cam tensed up a bit as Laura leaned in close to him but as she spoke he relaxed and looked past her a little to Astrid "Not surprisingly really." He said back to Laura with a smile

"We still on for tonight?"

"You see this stack of books. You will choose one and you see this stack of papers these are the questions for your book report. I want a short essay answering all the questions." Mr McDowell started his class. "We have a new lass here so she will be the first to pick."

"Yo" Astrid said with a smile and a nod "I'm not sure how this class is going to go. I have heard American and English is quite different?"

She went to speak again but then the teacher singled her out. She turned back to the teacher and stood, walking to the front.

"I will take...the third one in the stack" she reached to just pull it out, not even looking what the book was.

"God this is the kind of assignment I hate, if he would have just assigned us all the same book at the start of the year I could have had done this months ago." She said under her breath.

Cam sighed and looked at the books on offer seeing I'd there were any that didn't suck.

Jono looked at the stack of books and sighed. He'd read most of them.

"Nothing more contemporary Mr. McDowell? Crichton? Zahn? Gaiman? Pratchett?"

Mariana took Hamlet and a paper from the stack. "I guess I will be... reporting on this." The girl shuttered... she didn't want to say such silly pun.

Coop snags the slimmest volume and a set of questions.

"Who's Anne Bradstreet?"

"That is something for you to find out. It is one of the questions in the paper you have to answer." Mr McDowell opened his drawer. "Well, laddie, I have this one." He placed a black book with silver letters titled The Wave. "Tis more contemporary."
