(D1 LM Open) Lunch is....ew

[Astrid Hansen]

"Are American scientists like this also then?" Astrid asked with a curious expression, considering the idea.

[Cameron York]

"Couldn't tell ya, don't know any scientists really. I think one of the students here one of their parents is a scientists or something."

[Astrid Hansen]

"Oh you mean Simon? I should ask him" Astrid said thoughtfully "although he seemed mm...nervous? Hesitant? About talking on that subject, maybe his mom does very secretive work then. There are some things that are not public shared I suppose, not even I know all my dads work just the basics."

[Cameron York]

"Ah yeah yeah Simon, that sounds right. I wouldn't know about all that i ain't really talk to him ever. Maybe like once or twice just saying hey or school stuff."

[Astrid Hansen]

"He seems ok. The laptop is very interesting, I did not think they were so common."

Astrid looked over at Cameron.

"What do your parents do for living?"

[Cameron York]

"I wouldn't call them common really. They cost a shit ton."

"Well my dad works in maintenence. He worked for a school in Aurora he has a degree in engineering but had some trouble getting a full like engineering job. So he worked as a handy man at the school but got offered a job as a maintenence tech here at the science lab." He took a drink of some water.

"My mom found a job doing housekeeping at the resort."

[Astrid Hansen]

"Engineering? A good skill, is something I looked at once. I know a little about, there was a lot of machines involved in work at home. Your parents are all very close by then, that is nice I think?"

There was a small pause before she added "so he would be good with motorbikes then?"

[Cameron York]

"Uh probably? I mean he's not like a car mechanic but he does regular maintenance on our car. I don't know if he's ever looked at a motorcycle like that."

[Astrid Hansen]

"Oh, hmm ok. So I could not ask him to check if what I did on the engine of my bike was correct? I just used a book to make it work and it runs but it also does not sound...healthy? I guess?" Astrid shrugged "it is working now so that is fine."

[Cameron York]

Cam pushed his food around a bit thinking "uhh I mean I can ask him about it. He might be able to look at and like at least tell you if anything is wrong even if he can't fix it himself."

"Wait you just like fixed your bike up reading a book? Damn." He said sounding a little impressed.

[Astrid Hansen]

"Well, maybe. I just found something on engines and based what I read on what I thought was wrong. There was something in where one of the...belts? I think it is a belt. It was catching and coming off, pushing the belt off."

Astrid shrugged.

"I used a screwdriver to get the thing off, but I do not know if it's supposed to be there or not."

[Cameron York]

"It's wild how you say that. So simple for you, you've gotta be hella smart. I've watched my dad work on stuff and I get confused with how it all works and fits together."

[Astrid Hansen]

"I do not understand something by watching either. If I have some kind of guide or instruction, and am using my own hands, it helps me understand better as I can see and feel and touch it myself" Astrid offered with a tilt of the head "have you not tried to do something yourself and found it make more sense than watching it?"

[Cameron York]

"Not really." He shrugged "A lot of stuff I can watch and just get, or just imagine and I can figure it out. Like with art I can watch a technique and usually be able to start using it after studying it for a minute."

"Maybe it could help more with the mechanics stuff but I don't know I feel like my mind just isn't as suited for ordered stuff like that, Mechanics, math, science. I usually do well with things that are more subjective art, music, writing."

[Astrid Hansen]

"Maybe you are more a creator than a fixer? Some people are good at making something from scratch but they struggle when something is made and needs to be fixed, working from zero being easier than from halfway point" Astrid offered with a nod "I just adapt I guess. Had to learn to fix things before as not many people wandering around back home that can just stop by to fix snowmobile if it is not running."

[Cameron York]

"Well yeah I think we all do that. Some things are just easier for some people than others. Mechanics and math and other stuff is very ordered and technical. Everything has its correct place. Other stuff is more free form. Like yeah music has structure and art has its own theory about composition and technical skills but they also have just feeling. Like I can pick up a brush and just put what I'm feeling on my canvas and it's art, I can just pick up an instrument and jam and just play what sounds good to me. Some people prefer the straight forward and trchnical nature of hard sciences with rules and order but others enjoy the freedom of other subjects."

He should pulling back a little as he had gotten a bit animated "dunno just feels like different kind of stuff. like you can do whatever if you need to but I think a lot of people, maybe not everyone, find one easier than the other."

[Astrid Hansen]

There was a few nods.

"I can understand that. I admire artists, what I do is very basic. I couldn't do elaborate arts, and when I move from normal pencil shading to anything beyond that I'm quite bad at it. I admire your passion for art though, it's really cool."

[Cameron York]

He rubbed the back of his neck briefly but had a small smile "thanks. But he pencil art is still a form of art and I've seen your work its really good. I wouldn't call it basic."

[Astrid Hansen]

"I dunno, I looked at what you drew compared to mine and your very talented I think" Astrid said with a smile "I tried to copy the way you did it. Your shading style and how you piece together the art. It is fascinating, and I enjoyed watching you draw it."

[Cameron York]

He smiled "Hey I really appreciate that. And your art is really good too, it's just a different style. I would struggle to recreate the stuff you do." He said with a smile of his own
