(D2 LM expecting) Finally some good food?

[Astrid Hansen]

"Hmm...maybe..." Astrid frowned "I did not think to ask, but I also do not think the person at the grocery store would know either. I will have to try something with other meats to see if it's always similar.

She looked at Cameron.

"What is your favourite?"

[Cameron York]

Cam raised a questioning eyebrow "like my favorite meat? Or my favorite food?"

[Astrid Hansen]

"Both" Astrid replied, picking up some of the salad in her box to eat.

[Cameron York]

"Uhhh I guess my favorite meat.......probably a good steak? Not sure I ever thought about it before."

He thought a moment "my favorite meal. My grandma grew up in Georgia and she makes some of the best soul food I've ever had, fried catfish, cornbread, collard greens. Damn it tastes good."

[Astrid Hansen]

"Catfish?"

There was a thoughtful look.

"I wonder if you can get that here. I do not think I have ever seen or had cornbread, what is that?"

[Cameron York]

"Yeah they sell catfish at the store, my mom has made it a few times but it's just not quite like when grandma makes it." He said with a chuckle.

"Oh you've never had cornbread? Shit, it's delicious. it's basically a bread but made with cornmeal, bacon grease or butter, milk, flour, and eggs. Some people will put sugar in it but that makes it too sweet and too much like cake."

"Do you know your grandmothers recipe for those? I was going to go look for some cook books, I can see if this...cornbread is easy to make" Astrid picked up the second pastry in the box "bread is usually not too hard. Just takes a long time."

[Cameron York]

He thought for a koment "ooo nah its like one of those old school things that's passed down, she might have told my mom but I'm not sure. But I don't know if it's written down anywhere." He explained.

"Cornbread is pretty simple and usually doesn't take too long, for break that is."

[Astrid Hansen]

"You should ask your mother for the recipe then so you can make it" Astrid suggested as she bit into her second pastry, finishing it before continuing.

"Marine suggested the library for recipe books, I can see if they have bread recipes, that could be a fun thing to do."

[Cameron York]

He ate his other pastry too enjoying a comfortable silence as they both just shared a meal together.

When she spoke up again he nodded "yeah, I mean the library has all kinds of books. I'm sure they'll have a ton of different recipes, bread and otherwise."

"And what about you by the way? What's your favorite food?"

[Astrid Hansen]

There was a thoughtful pause before she spoke.

"Hmm...I really enjoy smørbrød, especially Stjerneskud. It is small simple dish, but the flavours work nicely. Especially with fresh fish. Is just a different kind of bread, rye I think it is called? Yes Rye bread, with specific toppings and buttered. Stjerneskud is topped fried plaice fillet shrimp, lettuce and caviar. I am fond of waffles too."

He looked thoughtful for a second "so uh kinda like toast with toppings or like a sandwich with one piece of bread?" He asked "and with caviar? Damn that sounds like fancy food."

[Astrid Hansen]

"Caviar comes from sturgeon fish eggs, and sturgeon are common to Norway so is not as big a deal. Fish is the central part of Norweign food, although sturgeon are not common where I live, it is imported from the mainland usually. The dish is actually Danish however" Astrid said with a small laugh "is not really Norweign! Most of Scandinavia share food similarities though. I prefer Norweign waffles to Danish or Swedish however."

He tilted his head to the side a little "what makes Norweagian waffles different than Swedish ones?" He thought waffles were fairly straight forward.

[Astrid Hansen]

"Swedish waffles are more lighter and crispier. Norweign waffles are softer, so you can fold them around things" Astrid smiled "they are much nicer like that. You can wrap them around ice cream and hold it."

[Cameron York]

"Huh both waffles sound different than American ones. Well crispy ones kind of sound like a waffle cone that we put ice cream in sometimes." He looked pensive

"We also have soft waffles but they are usually big and thick so you wouldn't carry them around and put stuff in them."

[Astrid Hansen]

"I have not had American waffles yet. Are they good then?" Astrid looked curious "I should go look for some to have at home. Are they more a dessert waffle then?"

[Cameron York]

"They serve them at the diner at breakfast time." Cameron said "we can go on a weekend morning if you'd like to try?"

"They are a breakfast food, thick, fluffy in the inside and crispy on the outside. A little Sweet but some people eat them with butter to add some saltiness. Or add syrup to make them more sweet."

[Astrid Hansen]

"That would be nice" Astrid nodded with a smile "so you have sweet breakfasts? That's interesting, I don't usually have sweet things for breakfast."

He shrugged "its not that unusual, a lot of places have sweet pastries for breakfast time. At least from what I heard. We might do it more than other countries though." He conceded, his knowledge of other countries not terribly deep
